Ames wrote that the decision was out of concern for her health. Media outlets have insinuated Ames died by suicide following successive comments on Twitter in which she defended her refusal to perform in a pornographic movie with a man who had previously worked in gay pornography and sparking an 'online firestorm'.
Her death was ruled a suicide by the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office. On December 5, 2017, Ames was found dead at her home in Camarillo, California, at the age of 23.
